Badgers in Porto, Portugal part 1 of 5

Two fun weeks in Porto, Portugal.
I think we are plenty inspired to learn Portuguese now!
<3

But first 3 flights!
Late Sunday.
SLC->Minneapolis

Minneapolis->Paris, Charles DeGaul
In Minneapolis airport.
Last minute college homework.
Turning it in at the airport, while there's good connectivity.

In the Charles DeGaul airport, Paris, France

Arrived in Portugal, it was late...
Monday evening, late.
Went to sleep.

*****

Tuesday.
Good morning, Portugal!
First off hotel breakfast - which was amazing, mostly because they had one.
And the girls were happy with the choices.
Yum.

***

Off to downtown.
First impressions.
Got a car ride: we were dropped off in downtown Porto.
Azulejos decorate many religious buildings.

Had to have this photo.

A local musical performer and pigeon enthusiast.

Bought a postcard from a fellow pigeon enthusiast.

A walk along the south side of the River Douro.
And crossed the lower pedestrian walk way to the other side.

A peak through the girders of the bridge while crossing on foot.

The South side of the River Douro.

Found some stairs.

Went up those stairs.

A marvelous view.

***

Hoofed it all the way back to the hotel.
Down time.
It's important!

*****

Wednesday.
The sofa chair in our room is upholstered with velour plush.
The children make much use of it.

Inspired art.

Homework?
Probably gaming...
Left this one in charge...

While Erik and I make a quick run to pick up some Chinese food to bring back.

Wednesday, early evening (Tuesday midday in SLC): logging in remotely to Debate class.

*****

Thursday morning...
On a mission to find the beach!

Just add water.
The puck expand to a towelette/glorified-baby-wipe of gigantic proportions.
Still came it kind of useful.

Walk.

Walk, walk, walk.

Many beautiful tiles.

Down to the south side of the River Douro.
There was a gondola overhead.

Wooden ship building yard.

Anglers.

The skeletons of buildings...

To...
The beach.

And the a large bird sanctuary with outlook.

More beach.

The beautiful Atlantic Ocean.

I gave miss some sand tools!

Lunch!

And a drop-off point for my first wooden doll.

Hide-and-seek!
Who will find my little present?

After lunch...

Beachcombing...

There is graffiti here and there.

The walk back.

Another spot to leave one of my little painted wooden dolls.

Helper.

Goodbye!

Found a little fruit stand on the way back to our room.
I think that pomegranates look quite classic painterly

We found a local Lidl grocery store...
Bought a few items.

Our hotel room is roomy, and has a kitchenette, complete with a full-size fridge.
What it didn't have is any pots, pans, plates, bowls, or silverware.
So for dinner that night, we had cheesy canned beans served in our Chinese-take-out trays (they had been washed of course)...  Making due before we had much for kitchenwares.

Watching Portuguese tellie.

Finishing the evening with Math homework and help from sister.
