Badgerie Menagerie: Social Isolation 2021: October: It was busy!

Rock candy, camping, sewing, Halloween, RC airplanes, chemistry experiments, more sewing, & shenanigans!
So busy, with life starting to open up a little bit.
I almost didn't get around to posting, but so glad that I did.  ;)

Lucky carrot find in her garden.

Playing with Chinese calligraphy...

Our rock candy project, several days post-pour.
We will let it sit for a little over a week.

October Camp!

For inktober, I wanted to continue painting, drawing during camp.
So this was my sumi-e ink set up at camp.

Hike!

Lunch!

Driving school is in session.

We found this curious thing...

And figured out (with the help of a sign) that it was a "guzzler", which collects water in the dessert for use by the local wildlife.

Found an abandoned pit mine.

Coming to the cookie window...

For cookies!

Where exactly did they get this play water from?
Hmmm.
Not to worry, it was from their water bottles...
Just a bit.

I come for the cookies.

Out to hike!

Found a mollusk fossil.

Shadows!

Lookee the deer skull!

Relaxing.

Sometimes, walking ahead beats sitting in the van.
This is especially so, when the going gets tilt-y.

Those salt flats!

Post camp coffee!

Big Rock-Candy Mountain

Root-beer flavored.
In case you were wondering....

Yum.

***
RC'ing it.

Flying his RC Zagi.
This one has motor.

This skull was extremely popular, not only with me...

But also with this one.
This is the last I saw of the skull.
The kids said that they saw the magpie take off with this skull it its mouth.
Apparently it was very tasty!

***
And now for some science outside!
Fun with oxygen.

Working on mixing up the solution for the "blue bottle experiment".
Demonstrates the detection of oxygen.

Lighting a smoldering match with an oxygen rich environment.

Enjoying the autumn leaves!

***
Sewing venus-fly trap stuffies for party-gifts for our Halloween Party.

This one is a cookie-monster themed venus-fly trap!

Enough fun for the whole fam!

***

Working on a Wright Brother's flyer...
One of his many RC plane projects!

***
She designed this diorama house...

At the stove.
It's Miss 1 & Miss 3, in Halloween regalia.

Meanwhile, Miss 2 and I hand out with cookies at the dining table.

Which is right next to the bed.

And a peek from the side window shows Dada.

Math and art...

***
The beginnings of my crazy sewing project...
A anatomical doll model for a 25-workshop-long human sexuality class that I am teaching.

I was obsessed with making ovaries out of puff balls.
So I made two puff-balls and trimmed them to shape.

The first organ system finished.

She is at the ready to begin opening up the patient, with her trusty seam ripper.

Let the organ-o-plasty begin.

And for good measure, I constructed the labia majora and below that, the anus.

Everything in its place, from the top down:

Clitoral hood, clitorus, labia minora.
Within the labia minora, the urethra and vagina.

And some more organs to boot.
I'm particularly fond of the liver, in purple, with two faces.

Here she is with most of her major abdominal organs:
liver, gallblader, stomach, small & large intestine, kidneys, bladder, ovaries, uterus.
From start to finish, this was 1.5 weeks in the making

More pre-Halloween shenanigans!

She sewed aprons for these stuffies.

...so that they could bake together!

She made so much popcorn!

And we want some!

Chicken & Lil Pid baking.

Cooking up the carmel for the carmel popcorn!

Baking mini.

Carving.

They made a wonderful romantic, Halloween dinner for hubby & me.

A romantic eyeball bouquet

Complete with eyeball peppermint chocolate truffles!

Halloween!

Opening up the pumpkin for the pumpkin casserole.

uwu

stuffn!

Hand punch

mummies, and stuffed jalapeno mice.

Roasted pumpkin casserole!
Mmmm!

Thank you so much to the families that did Halloween exchange with us!

And now for the part that they'd been all preparing for...
The Hall of Halloween!
(Our version of indoor trick-or-treating!)

A knock at Miss 2's door.

It's a venus fly-trap!

A knock at Dada's door.

A knock at Miss 1's door.
It's a plague doctor!

With her plague shack.

And inside, her shabby hut is her shabby cabinet of snake oils and medicines.

Thanks for all of the fun!

Miss 3 wanted to host a little mini-Halloween party at her tree house...
It came complete with mini-baked food & mini-punch.

Let the candy-corn rain down.

The front door was well decorated.

And there was mini-bowling

Mini photo-shoot!

Pleased with her haul, despite not having done the trick-or-treat rounds this year.
Hopefully next year, things will be safer.
